Here’s your chance to visit and explore Kollam town and Tangasseri. Heritage Walk Trivandrum is organising an exploratory visit to Kollam this Sunday. Since registration for travel by bus is already full, those interested can now directly join the team at 8 Point Art Cafe, Asramam, Kollam.

“Known as one of the oldest trading centres and port towns of India, Kollam’s coastal history dates back to trade links on the Malabar coast with the Phoenicians and Romans in the ancient past, even before the foundation of the Chera dynasty in early centuries of CE,” says a release from the group.

Kollam-based architect and heritage expert Manoj Kumar Kini will facilitate the event, which begins with a powerpoint presentation on the district’s history and heritage at 9.30 am. This will be followed by a stroll around the Asramam area and a drive to the central market (Chamakadda). Afternoon explorations include a trip to the Collectorate via port Kollam. Further comes Tangasseri, adjoining forts and the famous lighthouse areas. The Heritage Walk winds up by 4.30 pm.
