New Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Wednesday rescued two women, aged 20 and 28, who had become victims of human trafficking. Both of them belong to West Bengal.
According to the DCW, a team was sent to Nizamuddin, from where both the women were rescued, after an individual called the Women Helpline number and informed the Commission.
“The victims said they were kept captive in a house in Yamuna Vihar from where they managed to escape somehow. They reached Nizamuddin where they met a man, who informed DCW on its helpline 181,” said a DCW official.
According to DCW, one of the women was brought to Delhi on the false promise of a job and was taken by a man to GB Road where she was sold and raped by more than 10 men daily.
“She said fairness cream was applied on her face and neck, because of which her skin was severely burnt. She was held captive in GB road for 2-3 months,” the Commission said.
The second lady informed the DCW that she came to Delhi with a woman to get a job and after remaining unemployed for long, she was sold off at GB road. She was made to sleep with multiple men everyday and on resistance she would be beaten severely.
The DCW took the girls to the Kamla Market Police Station and ensured registration of their FIR.
According to DCW, police tried to rescue other girls from Yamuna Vihar but was unsuccessful for want of proper address.
“I am nauseated by the collusion and apathy of the authorities towards the huge human trafficking racket operating in GB road. Both the girls have revealed unspeakable horrors of GB road. The place needs to shut down and women need to be rehabilitated,” DCW Chief Swati Maliwal said after meeting the victims.
