ALLAHABAD: The district administration would construct "pink toilets" at 13 police stations in UP's Kaushambi to provide access to hygienic washrooms to women.
These special toilets would also have vending machines for sanitary napkins, an incinerator and a separate area for breastfeeding mothers.
Kaushambi district magistrate, Manish Kumar Varma, said, “Many women who visited police stations often complained about the lack of properly maintained and hygienic washrooms at police stations.
So the district administration chalked out a strategy to construct pink toilets at all police stations of the district.”
The pink toilets would be constructed at police stations in Kokhraj, Kaushambi, Mahewa Ghat, Manjhanpur, Charwa, Karari, Mohabbatpurpaisa, Paschimsareera, Pipri, Puramufti, Saini and Sarayakil.
The district officials have also chalked out a plan to construct toilets for women in all villages located on the banks of Yamuna.
Varma said, “We have started constructing the toilets in such villages. We are also planning to construct community toilets for women in each village, which would also have sanitary pad vending machines.”
“The pink toilets were very much needed at police stations but it is important that the users keep them clean for the next user,” said a senior woman police official based in Kausahmbi, preferring anonymity.
