HYDERABAD: Even before the dust on the Miryalaguda honour killing case settles down in which a pregnant woman's husband was killed, another horrific tragedy involving a couple emerged in Ranga Reddy district on Monday when a young girl took her life by setting herself on fire upon knowing that her boyfriend had hung himself at Kandukur village in Shankarpalli mandal.
Family members claimed they were unaware that the young couple were in love.

As soon as she came to know about the suicide of Yellesh, 22, in the morning, Lavanya, 19, doused herself with kerosene and torched herself. She died on the spot. Cyberabad police said both of them hailed from same community and happened to be cousins and neighbours. They had been in a relationship for the last one-and-a-half years.
On Sunday evening, Yellesh, a security guard in a private company, consumed alcohol with his friend Srikanth. While the two were drinking, Yellesh received a call from Lavanya. Yellesh moved a little away from Srikanth to talk to her privately. Srikanth, who was sitting at a distance, realised that Yellesh and Lavanya were having a heated argument over phone and took the phone from Yellesh to speak to her but Lavanya hung up the phone.
This upset Yellesh, who went to his house. He left the house at 7pm, telling his family members that he would return on Monday morning. Twenty minutes later, Yellesh called up his brother Raj Kumar and Srikanth, telling that he was committing suicide and disconnected the call. A worried Srikanth called him back 35 times but in vain. Raj Kumar in the meanwhile also went around to look out for his brother. He found the bike of Yellesh and in some distance, found him hanging from a tree.

Parents were shocked to hear about Yellesh's suicide and soon the word spread in the village like a wild fire. Lavanya, who heard about the tragic news on Monday morning, bolted the door and set herself ablaze in the house. Her mother rushed when she saw smoke but by then Lavanya was totally burnt.
Lavanya worked as a helper in a hospital, but had been unemployed for some time.
