NEW DELHI: South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Thursday sealed Tivoli Garden Resort in south Delhi’s Chhatarpur in a drive against misuse of property.
The drive was conducted on directions of the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee. Senior officials said the monitoring committee had inspected the premises and then ordered action. From next week, the corporation will conduct a survey and act against misuse of similar properties in Chhatarpur.
“The property has been sealed for misuse of land as the land was meant for agriculture, but was being used for commercial activities,” said a senior south corporation official.
He added that the committee has also directed the corporation to carry out a survey in the area to find out the number of properties that are flouting the norms of Master Plan 2021, and are conducting commercial activities illegally.
Tivoli Garden Resort is one of the biggest wedding venues in the capital and with the wedding season coming up, it may have to suffer losses. Despite several attempts, owners of the resort could not be contacted.
The sealing drive was initiated by the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee in December last year and since then, several markets, shops, restaurants, farmhouses and resorts have been sealed. Last year, south corporation had carried out a major sealing drive in Chhatarpur, shutting down 30 marble shops, along with general stores, eateries etc, which were found violating the Master Plan 2021.
The SC has rejected several petitions and insisted that there would be “no stopping of sealing or demolition” of unauthorised constructions in Delhi. The court has also directed that construction activity be stopped with immediate effect wherever any unauthorised construction is taking place.
