HYDERABAD: The
Osmania University students on Thursday held a rally from Arts College to NCC Gate in support of the victim couple of the honour killing in Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district on September 14.
Over 500 students participated in the rally demanding justice for the girl who lost her husband after a contract killer attacked them outside a hospital in Miryalaguda.
Students raised slogans as they demanded a fast-track trial in the case wherein girl’s father is the main accused.
Among the many demands raised by the students are – introduction of an act on par with the Nirbhaya Act to protect couples indulging in inter-caste marriages and investigation by a high court sitting judge in the Nalgonda case. The OU students also demanded the
TRS government to take responsibility of such honour killing cases after another couple was attacked by the girl’s father in Erragadda on September 19.
“This is the 14th caste killing in
Telangana. Why has the TRS govt not responded and taken action on such killings. It’s high time that the government reacts to such incidents and take action,” said Dudapaka Naresh, state president of Dalit Minority Students Association in OU.
Few students were also detained by the OU police station and released in the evening.
