According to Singh, in July this year, a local resident Mudassar Alam filed an FIR at Cantonment police station alleging that Adeel and his associate, Mohammad Faizan, opened a bank account in Faizan’s name using his photograph.

Adeel and Faizan were charged under IPC sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security) and 471 (Using as genuine a forged document), said police.

“During investigation, police found that the driver’s license which was used as ID proof was fake. The address of account holder mentioned in the bank records was not found to be of Faizan’s either,” said Singh. “As per bank record, the introducer and guarantor is Adeel Ahmed, a businessman. The probe also revealed that transaction of Rs 2 crore was done through the same account.”

“Police also found a bank draft was prepared from the same bank account to pay medical education fees of Dr Kafeel Khan at Manipal University,” added Singh. “Since Dr Kafeel was also beneficiary of the account, he was also made an accused and arrested. Alam’s statement was recorded before magistrate who also held Dr Kafeel responsible.”
