Sotirios (Sam) Georgiadis, owner of Meze Greek Tapas Bar & Grille, 156 Shrewsbury St., Worcester, has bought the building at 166 Shrewsbury St. that housed The Chameleon restaurant.

Georgiadis said he signed final papers on Sept. 24 and plans to open Meze in the new property within a few months. He and his son, Panagiopis (Pano) Georgiadis, will operate the business.

Meze will continue to operate at its present location until the move, according to Georgiadis.

“The opportunity to bid on the property came along and I decided to go for it,” said Georgiadis. “The timing was right.” His plans include renovating the restaurant space, “possibly turning second floor rooms into offices.”

Georgiadis will continue the tradition of Meze by serving traditional Greek dishes in addition to new upscale twists. “Higher quality and more variety and innovation,” said Georgiadis about the new Meze. Guests can expect an assortment of craft beer and Greek wine on draft, he said, adding that the bar will have 28 draft lines.

“My son and I have a lot of ideas for the business,” said Georgiadis. One of the new menu items could include Greek lamb on the rotisserie. “There’s a smoker on the property that we plan to use,” said Georgiadis.
