NEW DELHI: A day after the bodies of two sisters were found in a drain in outer Delhi’s Alipur, police arrested three men on Wednesday. One of them is Lucky, the husband of the elder sibling, Ruksar (22). Lucky told cops that he and his two friends had planned to bump off his wife, but had to kill her sister, Nabita (19), as well as she witnessed the murder.
The two sisters, from Seelampur, had gone missing on September 19.
Their bodies were found in a drain in Alipur on Monday. There were no apparent injury marks on the bodies. Family members claimed that Ruksar had been living separately from her husband after she got to know about his first marriage and he allegedly tried to push her into prostitution. Lucky, who was involved in criminal activities earlier, has been missing from his house in Peeragarhi, Rohini, for the past few days, an officer said.

The family filed a missing complaint on September 21 after looking for the sisters till Kashmere Gate and Model Town. Meanwhile, cops at Alipur found two bodies trapped in a mesh in the drain. A hue and cry notice was raised and the family contacted to identify them.
Their mother, Shabnam, told TOI that the sisters left home around 5.30pm on September 19, saying they were going to look for a job for Ruksar and would return in two hours. “Ruksar’s husband used to threaten her. She had got a call from someone about a job near Model Town and had gone for the interview. Nabita accompanied her to ensure her safety. I had called them at 6.40pm, but found the phones switched off,” she said.
Relatives said Ruksar and Lucky had got married two years ago following a courtship and had a daughter last year. They alleged that after the first month of the wedding, Ruksar was taken to Ludhiana and forced to work at a dance bar. Lucky would never allow her to call home and threatened to kill her if she confided in them. He had allegedly planned to sell her off for Rs 2 lakh to a pimp. “But she managed to escape and return home six months ago,” Shabnam said. This allegedly angered Lucky and that’s when he decided to get rid of her.

He roped in two friends, Prem (31) and Shivam (21). Three months later, Lucky got to know that Ruksar was looking for a job and found it the perfect opportunity to get in touch with her. He posed as the owner of a jewellery store and offered her a job. Over telephone, he asked Ruksar to meet him. “Nabita was suspicious. She feared that Lucky might try to attack Ruksar if he got to know that she was taking up a job. She even suspected that Lucky could be behind the job offer,” Shabnam said.
DCP (northeast) Atul Thakur said the family had approached them on Friday and a case was registered instantly. “A team led by additional DCP RP Meena was formed and investigation started,” he said.
Several traps were laid and raids conducted after which the accused were arrested. Lucky told police that his two accomplices met the sisters at Kashmere Gate. Lucky met them midway and forced them to have a drink laced with sedatives. While Ruksar immediately fell unconscious, Nabita was semi-conscious and threatened to call the cops. The three men first killed her and then strangulated Ruksar.
