PATNA: Three empty coaches of the Darbhanga - Kolkata Express were derailed in the yard of Darbhanga station under Samastipur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) early on Friday morning. No one was reported injured in the incident.
However, movement of traffic for shunting purpose in the yard was affected for about an hour due to a derailment of empty coaches, said ECR chief public relations officer (CPRO), Rajesh Kumar.

Kumar said the accident relief train (ART) immediately rushed to the spot and started lifting derailed coaches. “The shunting yard was cleared soon for further traffic movement in the yard. The Darbhanga – Kolkata Express was scheduled to leave Darbhanga for Kolkata at its departure time at 3:45pm on Friday,” the CPRO said.
According to sources, though the division did not announce so far any departmental probe into the incident, it was most likely that a departmental inquiry would be ordered to know the exact cause of derailment in the yard. The sources added that such derailment was often caused either due to faults in the tracks or in track - point setting system in the yard.
Meanwhile, railways held a joint mock drill exercise with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and district administration personnel at Kiul station under Danapur division of the ECR on Friday to check preparedness for the post rail accident rescue exercise and relief measures to be given to the victims soon after the accident. “The rescue exercise included immediate first- aid to the injured and rushing seriously injured persons to the nearby hospital,” a railway official of Danapur said.
He added: “The NDRF and local district administration people successfully carried out a mock drill exercise which lasted for about two hours on Friday afternoon to check railway preparedness in wake of any major accident at such an important station of the division.”
