Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia (CSFP) released applications to its random lottery for need-based, K-8th grade scholarships for Philadelphia children this weekend. The organization opened applications at simultaneous events at six neighborhood recreation centers across the city.

CSFP will award 2,000 new, four-year scholarships to children from low-income families to use starting in September 2019. Crowds of eager parents and children joined CSFP Executive Director Heather Frattone, staff, and families to celebrate the application launch.

“We encourage families throughout the city to apply to CSFP’s lottery for partial, K-8th grade scholarships. We believe that, regardless of zip code or family income, all kids should have access to quality schools,” said Heather Frattone, CSFP executive director. “We are thrilled to be able to help provide access to thousands more families this year.”

Current CSFP parent Selena Brown shared her experience with CSFP’s program, commenting: “My daughter’s previous school just wasn’t a good fit, but I couldn’t afford another option,” said Brown, whose daughter now attends St. Martin de Porres School. “Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia helped me get her started on the educational path she deserves. I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunities receiving this scholarship has blessed us with.”

All new CSFP scholarships will be awarded through a random lottery, four-years in length, need-based, and can be provided to a family as a whole for up to three children.

Applications are available online at CSFPhiladelphia.org as well as local libraries, churches and schools through March 1. CSFP holds a priority deadline of November 15, 2018, and a final deadline of March 1, 2019.
