NEW DELHI: A PCR van chased down a Fortuner SUV that two men had stolen from the driver of a school owner in Pitampura. The incident happened in Prashant Vihar on Saturday and the accused was arrested.
Police said that the accused, Mahesh (25), is a resident of Kharkhoda village. On Saturday, the driver, Bhim Kumar, was driving his owner’s Fortuner SUV from Pitampura to Rohini’s Sector 13.
Around 1.30pm, when Kumar reached Rohini Sector 9, two people forcibly entered his SUV by pointing a pistol at him.
They pushed Kumar on the passenger seat and one of them drove it while the other took the rear seat. They thrashed the driver and drove him around for almost a kilometre, after which they threw him out and fled with the vehicle.
The driver immediately made a PCR call and then a call to the owner. DCP (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said that when they got the information, a wireless message with the details of the car was flashed. After this, a PCR van and the cops reached the spot.
The driver and the owner of the SUV boarded the PCR van and started moving towards the possible escape routes the robbers could have taken. “After a chase for about half an hour, the PCR van finally intercepted the robbed vehicle near Kanjhawala,” said DCP PCR, SD Mishra.
As soon as they were intercepted, the robbers got off the SUV and started running. One of them pulled out a pistol and threatened to open fire.
In retaliation, assistant sub-inspector Ashwani fired once in the air and one of the accused, Mahesh, was nabbed while the other managed to escape. “The team is on a lookout for the other accused who was driving the vehicle,” said DCP Gupta.
