NEW DELHI: The body of a 16-year-old girl, who was missing since Monday, was found in a field in outer Delhi’s Alipur on Tuesday morning.
Body of the girl, later found to be a resident of Burari in north Delhi, had injury marks on the face.
DCP (North) Nupur Prasad said that a case has been registered and the body has been preserved in the mortuary. An autopsy will be conducted on Wednesday.
A preliminary probe revealed that the girl left her house on Monday evening for her tuition class and did not return.
The CCTV footage recovered from the area showed the girl walking to the tuition centre at 5pm. Cops said that the footage showed the girl leaving the centre an hour later. The girl’s family members tried calling her on her mobile phone but could not get through. After waiting the whole night, the family filed a missing complaint at the Burari police station on Tuesday morning.
Even as details were uploaded on zipnet, the body was recovered. Following identification, the case was transferred from Alipur to Burari.
Investigating officers are now scanning the CCTV cameras near the roads leading to the field. A preliminary probe ruled out sexual assault, but senior officers said that they are awaiting the autopsy report for further details. The girl had ligature marks around her neck, indicating she was strangulated.
