An FIR is yet to be lodged either by the family members of the victims or the local police despite a lapse of several hours.
The incident has created tension in the area.
According to sources, while some members of the Yadav community were irrigating their wilting paddy crop by pumping out water from the village pond, some Schedule Caste (Rajbanshi caste) members from the village, including Lila and Indu tried to divert the water to their own plot. This infuriated the Yadav men and an altercation ensued.
Meanwhile, some unidentified men from the crowd lobbed a crude bomb at the Yadav community members. In retaliation, some men from the Yadav community identified as Lallu Yadav, Rahul Yadav, Shri Yadav, Pintu Yadav, returned with firearms and opened fire resulting in Indu’s death. Leela and Prabhu also received bullet injuries and are undergoing treatment at Nawada sadar hospital.
Akbarpur SHO Sanjiv Mauar, did not respond on his cell phone, while Rajauli SDPO Sanjay Kumar said one woman has been killed. Meanwhile, JD (U) leader Shyam Rajak, who paid a visit to Nawada on Thursday was gheraoed by the agaitated village residents for hours at Nawada sadar hospital. The villagers demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakh ex gratia for the kin of the deceased and Rs 5 lakh compensation for the two critically injured persons.

It may be mentioned here that due to monsoon failure, Nawada is reeling under acute drought-like condition and thousands of acres of paddy crop are on the verge of withering away. Even paddy transplantation has been badly affected and only 16% paddy transplantation was reported from Pakribarma block under Warisaliganj assembly segment.
