PATNA: A 37-year-old schoolteacher died after a private school bus hit his motorcycle from the rear at J P roundabout near Gandhi Maidan here around 7.10am on Friday.
The deceased, Sanjay Pandey, was on way to B D Public School at Buddha Colony when the incident occurred. Pandey was a mathematics teacher at the school and used to teach senior secondary students. He has left behind him his wife and a four-year-old daughter.
According to police sources, a private school bus hit Pandey’s motorcycle from the rear while trying to overtake his vehicle.
SHO of Gandhi Maidan traffic police station Ghanshyam Murari said Pandey fell on the ground after the accident and sustained injuries to his head. Eyewitnesses said the teacher died on way to hospital due to excess blood loss.
Murari said the driver of the speeding bus managed to escape from the spot after the accident. “Though the teacher was wearing helmet, the impact of the crash was so strong that he died within a few minutes after the accident. His body was sent to the Patna Medical College and Hospital for autopsy,” Murari added.
He said the police have started scanning footages of CCTV cameras installed near J P roundabout to identify the killer bus. “The driver and the conductor of the bus will be arrested soon,” he added.
Pandey, a resident of Mehandia in Arwal district, used to live in a tenanted flat on Jagath Narayan Path in Kadamkuan locality of the city with his family.
A condolence meeting was organised at B D Public School as a mark of respect to the departed
soul. Tears were rolling down the eyes of the students who had lost one of their favourite teachers. Considering the gravity of the situation, the school was declared closed for the day after the condolence meeting.
B D Public School principal Meera Kumari said Pandey had joined the school eight years ago. “He was a very sincere teacher. Our thoughts are with his family members. May they stay strong during this difficult period,” she said, adding the driver of the killer bus should immediately be arrested.
The accident left the students shell-shocked too. “Sanjay sir was one of the best teachers at the school. We will miss him,” said Akshay, a Class XI student.
