Bihar: Alert sounded over Zika virus after Siwan youth tests positive in Jaipur

The ministry of health and family welfare sounded an alert to Bihar on Sunday following a 22- year native of Siwan, presently studying in Jaipur, tested positive for Zika virus. The state health department has alerted all 38 districts to keep a close watch on people suffering from symptoms of Zika virus. The ministry of health notified the state government that the youth was recently tested positive for Zika at Jaipur and had visited Siwan.

PATNA: The ministry of health and family welfare sounded an alert for Bihar on Sunday following a 22- year-old native of Siwan, presently studying in Jaipur, tested positive for Zika virus.
An official of state health department claimed that the central surveillance unit of the ministry of health notified the state government on Sunday that the youth Pankaj Chourasia was recently tested positive for Zika in Jaipur and had visited Siwan from August 28 to September 12.
The official added that a team rushed to Siwan on Sunday and undertook surveillance of family members of Chourasia but none of them showed symptoms of Zika.
Nonetheless, the state health department has alerted all 38 districts to keep a close watch on people suffering from symptoms of Zika.
