GAYA: Magadh University (MU) has offered the services of 55% of its existing headquarters-based working strength of 465 employees to its newly-created offshoot Pataliputra University (PPU). In terms of number, MU offered to part with the services of 256 employees.
The PPU officials however, said they do not have enough space to accommodate that many employees as they are operating from a make shiftcampus and MU continues to be in possession of the vital infrastructure, where the parent university's branch office is located.
Deliberations in this regard were held at a high-level meet held in Patna on Friday to work out the modalities of the division of man power between the MU and Patna- based Pataliputra University. The meet was convened by the education department principal secretary RK Mahajan and the participants, included MU registrar Col Pranav Kumar and PPU pro-VC Girish Kumar Chaudhary.
Chaudhary confirmed his university's inability to accommodate, so many employees. MU registrar Col Pranav Kumar has offered to vacate the branch office and informed the education department officials that MU has hired a building in Kankerbagh area of Patna and the branch office will be relocated by October 15. “Even after MU vacates the branch office, PPU will need at least two months time to make necessary modifications required for the university's office and even then the space shortage would remain a problem,” said PPU pro-VC.
“PPU wants need based transfer of personnel from the parent university. To begin with, the university needs only 19 personnel of diverse skills to run the office,” said Chaudhary. Such staff included a junior engineer and a mixed pack of senior and junior clerical staff.
The MU registrar, according to PPU pro-VC submitted the list of 19 personnel as demanded by his university. It needs government approval before executing the man power division. Chaudhary hoped the government will soon approve the list to facilitate early transfer of the much-needed man power. Sources also say that the MU has sought utilisation certificate of the Rs five crore given by the parent university to its off shoot. Virtually ruling out submission of utilisation certificate to MU Chaudhary said, “Utilisation certificate will be submitted to the government and not MU. PPU can, at the most acknowledge the receipt of Rs 5 crore.”
