BHOPAL: Ahead of assembly elections in the state, AICC president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday spoke to eight party district chiefs over phone from New Delhi asking them to give recommendations to strengthen the party organisation.
The calls came soon after he addressed the media in the capital on Rafale deal controversy."We were informed a day before that the Congress national president wanted to speak to us," said Tilakraj Singh, Congress district president for Singrauli.
He conversed with the district presidents on organisational matters, polls preparation, issues in these elections and assured that tickets will be given to deserving candidates and not based on high-level lobbying.
Congress district presidents who received calls from Rahul Gandhi were Pramod Tandon (Indore), Tilakraj Singh (Singrauli), Sanjay Parihar (Mandla), Jaiprakash Agarwal (Anuppur), Virendra Bihari Shukla (Dindori), Manoj Trivedi (Chattarpur), Rakesh Mavai (Morena) and Mahesh Soni (Ujjain).
"All calls came between 10 am and 11 am," said Manoj Trivedi. "I was asked about organisational strength in the Bundelkhand region and particularly in Chhattarpur. I said that previously one constituency would be spread over one or two blocks. But now an assembly constituency covers three blocks. My district has 1565 polling stations and we have 15,650 workers at 10 workers per polling booth. I also said that all organisational arrangements have been completed for the elections and we have in place three"mandalams" in each block."
Trivedi was also asked about the number of assembly seats and local issues in Chhattarpur. He was also asked by the Congress national president to send recommendations and suggestions that could be helpful for the upcoming assembly elections.
"How are the preparations going in your district, the party president asked," recalled Tilakraj Singh. "He asked me if I was taking regular meetings of party workers and asked to maintain a register. I was asked to send recommendations and mention any organisational problems that need to be addressed. He spoke to me for more than five minutes and even asked for names of three active field workers."
Rahul Gandhi also asked district presidents to connect more workers to the party’s Shakti App. "He said Shakti App will strengthen organisation as workers can directly express their views and send it to central leaders," Tilakraj Singh added.
