UP: Six arrested for attacking college students in Ballia
VARANASI: The police on Friday arrested six youths, who are accused of attacking four students of Gandhi Mohammad Ali Memorial Inter College in Belthara Road area of Ballia district on October 8.
The four students Anuj Narayan Gond, Abhishek, Rajat and Navneet were allegedly attacked with sticks and sharp edge weapons when they were going out the campus around 12.30pm on October 8. In their complaint they alleged that they were attacked because of their statement given to media on October 5 regarding punishment on chanting "Bharat Mata ki Jai" in the college.

The complaint was lodged with the Ubhaon police station. The police said that the arrested youths included Mohammad Kaif, Firoz Ahmad, Tanzil Ahmad, Mohammad Chand, Osama alias Shanshuzzama, and Mohammad Arij, all residents of Ubhaon area.
The college has been in controversy after the members of a social organization Manas Mandir, on October 5, alleged that a student of the college was punished for chanting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram.’ Taking note of the media report, the Ballia DM Bhawani Singh Khangaraot asked DIoS Narendra Dev to look into the matter and submit a report.
The DM also visited the college on October 9 and found no evidence of such punishment. For further investigation, he asked the SDM Belthera Road to look into it. On the instruction of DM the college authorities also put a notice saying that there is freedom of reciting Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram in the college.
