Her wedding attire is often pale but interesting.

So the Duchess of Cambridge 's choice of dress for Princess Eugenie 's big day was a surprise.

The 36-year-old mother-of-three picked a brilliant fuchsia gown and matching fascinator, accessorised with black Prada heels and a burgundy clutch.

The rich, autumn appropriate colour might have been a surprise, but the designer certainly wasn't.

Kate once again went to Alexander McQueen, the fashion house which made her show-stopping wedding dress - and a favourite ever since.

Her veiled fascinator was Philip Treacy, another of her go to designers. She finished her look with diamond teardrop earrings.

However, as Storm Callum made its entrance, Kate struggled to hold down the hem of her dress as its winds caught everyone by surprise.

Kate and William appeared far more affectionate in public than usual. They sat in the pews before the service holding hands and at one point, Kate placed her hand on her husband's thigh.

Kate wore McQueen for her sister Pippa's wedding and for Meghan Markle's wedding to Harry earlier this year.

She had worn a similar yellow coat on a number of occasions, but there were subtle differences in the version she wore for Harry's Meghan in May.

The Duchess of Cambridge returned from maternity leave last week after giving birth to her third child Prince Louis six months ago.

Her first visit was to a primary school near her Kensington Palace home. She was out earlier this week at The Victoria and Albert Museum to open a new photography centre.

On that occasion she wore a £1,395 off-the-shoulder tweed dress by Erdem - who had been widely rumoured to design Princess Eugenie's wedding gown.

The rumour was false - Eugenie eventually opted for Peter Pilotto.
