  • The couple's six-year-old daughter, Theodora, served as Eugenie's bridesmaid
  • Robbie's gum-chewing drew much criticism from observers, who slammed him for breaking unofficial protocol as he attended the ceremony at Windsor Castle
  • His decision to chew gum emulated David Beckham, who was slammed for the same thing when he attended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's May nuptials
  • Ayda also set tongues wagging when she arrived at the chapel in a cream suit
  • Princess Eugenie and her groom Jack Brooksbank know the Williams family well

Robbie Williams has sparked outrage among royal wedding fans, after he was seen chewing hum while sitting in the quire at Princess Eugenie's wedding on Friday.

The 44-year-old X Factor judge appeared to disregard etiquette rules at the formal event as he chomped away while chatting with a fellow guest at the high-profile event, held at St. George's Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Robbie's six-year-old daughter Theodora 'Teddy' Williams followed Eugenie, 28, up the aisle ahead of the royal exchanging nuptials with Jack Brooksbank, 30.

And while there appeared to be universal praise of the elegant ceremony, Robbie's decision to chew gum was slammed by those who tuned in for the TV coverage.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: 'Beautiful Royal bride lovely wedding and lovely mother of the bride Duchess of York. However Robbie Williams chewing gum goes against etiquette especially when you are talking to people whilst sitting in the chapel.'

'Shame Robbie Williams has no social skills, sitting there chewing gum,' blasted another in the moments leading up to the ceremony commencing.

A third viewer enquired: 'How many mentions and bad words will @robbiewilliams get said against him now for chewing gum!'

Robbie's gum-chewing came months after David Beckham was slammed for doing the exact same thing when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot in May.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain after Harry and Megan's nuptials, Piers Morgan said of the retired footballer: 'He goes into church and sits down next to Nicholas Soames. The pillar of the establishment. A man related to Winston Churchill and what does old Golden Balls do? He chews gum.'

Robbie's wife Ayda was accused of committing the ultimate sartorial faux pas at Princess Eugenie's wedding on Friday, when she arrived in what many observers deemed to be a white ensemble.

Fans were quick to notice of the cream suit, with one writing on Instagram: 'The bride is the only person that is meant to wear white so that she stands out. It's an old tradition that maybe many are unaware of now.'

Another commented: 'Everyone knows you don't wear white to a wedding but the bride,' while a third penned: '[For] a traditional wedding like this is is just kind to let the bride shine in her white dress.'

However, others argued that the Armani ensemble was closer to grey or cream in colour, and accused Ayda's critics of overreacting.

Eugenie wore an elaborate gown by British designer Peter Pilotto as she arrived for the ceremony this morning, choosing not to wear a veil in order to show off the prominent scar on her back from an operation she had aged 12 to correct scoliosis.

Sarah Allard, editor at hitched.co.uk, commented: 'Ayda Field risks serious wedding faux pas with her off-white dress choice.

'Wearing white or any shade of white to a wedding is commonly considered a huge no-no - even more so for a royal wedding.

'Ayda Field’s decision to wear an off-white dress and jacket to accompany husband Robbie Willams to the wedding might raise a few eyebrows from the royal family within the ceremony and from the other guests in attendance.'

Ayda and husband Robbie were bursting with pride as they watched six-year-old Theodora 'Teddy' Williams follow Eugenie up the aisle.

But guests were forced to run for cover as blustery conditions battered Windsor Castle ahead of the royal wedding.

A-listers including Naomi Campbell and Demi Moore poured into St. George's Chapel to watch Princess Eugenie tie the knot with Jack Brooksbank on Friday morning.

Princess Eugenie and her groom Jack Brooksbank know the Williams family well, and reportedly the young bride views Robbie as ‘the brother she never had’.

Eugenie’s mother Sarah Ferguson is close to the couple too, having first met back in 2011 on the yacht of the Phones 4 U millionaire John Caudwell.

The Duchess of York and Ayda reportedly bonded during a shopping day in St Barts, and Robbie returned from the holiday saying he had ‘made a friend for life’, and the feeling was reciprocated by Fergie.

The group got on well enough for the Williams clan to invite Fergie and her daughters to their house in Los Angeles, and by May of 2011 the family was on close enough terms with the Royals to watch the Eurovision Song Contest at Robbie's house in Wiltshire.

Robbie and Ayda knew Eugenie well enough to have been invited to her graduation party the following year and in 2013, she and Brooksbank were spotted watching one of Robbie’s concerts from the wings of the stage.

Given the fact that Teddy was born in 2012, it’s highly likely that she and Princess Eugenie would have seen each other frequently over the last six years, and thus explains how Robbie's daughter ended up as one of Eugenie’s bridesmaids.
