MLC among 11 Beur jail inmates shifted to Bhagalpur
PATNA: Altogether 11 “notorious” inmates of Beur central jail, including independent MLC Ritlal Yadav, were shifted to two high-security Bhagalpur jails for six months on Monday night following reports that they were running criminal gangs from inside the jail.
Ritlal and 10 other criminals – Sonu Kumar, Sikandar Yadav, Amit Singh, Ranjeet alias Kalia, Laddu Patel, Ankit Kumar, Rajeev Gope, Abhishek Kumar, Vikash Kumar alias Amresh and Neeraj Singh – were shifted to the Bhagalpur jails by the home department on the basis of recommendations made by DIG (central range) Rajesh Kumar and Patna DM Kumar Ravi.

While Ritlal, Sonu, Sikandar, Amit, Ranjeet and Laddu have been kept in separate cells at Bhagalpur special central jail, the rest have been shifted to Saheed Jubba Shani Central Jail, Bhagalpur. The two Bhagalpur jails are known for stern surveillance and separate cell facility.
Brajesh Thakur, prime accused in Muzaffarpur government children home rape case, was also shifted to Bhagalpur special central jail recently following CBI’s complaint that he was not cooperating in investigation.
On July 3, the DIG had said that 100 notorious criminals of Patna and Nalanda, who were operating their gangs from inside jails, will be shifted to jails in other districts.
Ritlal was recently accused of seeking several crores as extortion from a construction firm. According to police, Ritlal had made threat call to the managing director of the firm from Beur jail. An FIR was lodged with Khagaul police station in this connection.

Laddu’s name had also surfaced in an FIR lodged with Sultanganj police station. He was accused of demanding Rs 5,000 per month as extortion from one Geeta Devi for running a flower shop near Mahendru post office.
The home department has asked officials of the two Bhagalpur jails to keep the 11 notorious criminals under CCTV surveillance and maintain records of the people visiting them.
DIG Kumar said the home department was recently requested to shift 43 notorious criminals from Beur Central Jail to other jails. “The remaining 32 inmates will be shifted to other jails soon,” he added.
