UK grants Egypt $16m to support education

The UK has agreed to issue £12 million ($15.8 million) to support educational reforms in Egypt, British Ambassador to Cairo, Sir Geoffrey Adams, said yesterday

“An investment in Egyptian youth is an investment in Egypt’s future,” the ambassador wrote on Twitter.

Local media, including state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper, said the British support will be offered through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

According to the paper, the British fund will focus on “training teachers and supporting child education in various provinces”.

Middle East Minister Alistair Burt added: “I am proud that once again the UK is at the forefront of supporting Egypt’s development and growth. This fund sends a global message of support to the future generations of this country and will help the Egyptian government turn its education reform vision into a reality.”
