PATNA: Four bike-borne criminals looted Rs 10.19 lakh from a financial firm's two employees at gunpoint near Mohan Badhiya under the Sakri police station area in Madhubani district on Tuesday morning.
Sakri police station SHO Rajesh Kumar said the incident took place around 9.30am when Deepak Kumar Poddar (32) and Pawan Kumar (27) were going on a bike to the Sakri branch of Bank of India to deposit the cash.
They work with the Bharat Financial Inclusion Private Limited, also located on Mohan Badhiya Road.
According to the SHO, the criminals overtook them from behind and pushed the bike due to which Poddar fell down. Another criminal tried to snatch the bag containing the cash, but Poddar resisted.
The other three criminals started thrashing Poddar with their pistol butts during which he lost his grip on the bag, and the criminals fled with it.
Quoting Poddar, the SHO said the money had been collected from women in villages. "The firm has been functioning in the area for the last three and a half years. It takes deposits from and extends credits to women in rural areas," the SHO said and added the firm had not informed police about any such transportation of cash.
