Costume parties, mystery gala, card readings, more in Jersey City

With Halloween being on a Wednesday this year, some spots in Hudson County are getting ready to celebrate the holiday early this year. LITM, a well-known establishment in the Jersey City restaurant scene, will be hosting several Halloween themed events throughout the rest of the month as the ghouls night out approaches.

Saturday, Oct 20, LITM will be hosting one of several after-parties following the Ghost of Uncle Joe's show at Harsimus Cemetery. LITM will feature several bands dressed up as famous rock bands including: The Pinball Wizards as The Who, JC Resistance Choir as Fleetwood Mac, Smalltown Paper and Fire as John Mellencamp, James Calleo as The Black Keys, and CC Roots as Kings of Leon. The show begins at 9:30 p.m.

In the following week, LITM will have its Rock the Haunted House event on Saturday, Oct 27, at 8 p.m. Music will be provided by DJ George Soul, Halloween cocktails, candy, discounts for costumed guests, and the "Haunted" group art show.

Escape room enthusiasts and puzzle connoisseurs are invited to the Order of Bright Minds Murder Mystery Gala, which will take place on Sunday, Oct 28, from 7 to 10 p.m. Guests are invited to accept this challenge, with the winner receiving a prize. But what kind of prize? That's the real mystery. Guests can also enjoy animal oracle card readings by Heather Scheppard, tarot card readings by Antifragile Tarot, Halloween drink specials, and $5 happy hour between 5 and 7 p.m. among other festivities for the evening. Entry for the event is free.

For a chance to win prizes, Oct 29 is Halloween Karaoke Theme Night from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Guests can sing Halloween classics such as "Monster Mash" and "Sally's Song." DJ Johnny C will host the event.

The night before Halloween is the Goth Prom, where guests are encouraged to come dressed in their darkest and most brooding outfits. DJ Ceremony will provide goth tunes and visuals for guests to dance the night away to. Also, for the best dressed couple, a King and Queen of Halloween will also be crowned.

Closing out the festive month is LITM's annual Halloween Bash and Costume Contest. A live DJ will provide music while costumed guests can enjoy discounts on drinks and other specials. A prize will be awarded to whoever has the best costume.
