Slide into the Miller Branch Library' Cultural Arts Center tomorrow and help the Community Awareness Series celebrate it's 41st anniversary.
The series will present a live performance by the Trombone Choir Jazz Band, featuring composers and trombonists Tina Polyakova and Vincent Gardner.
Between 2009 and 2014, Tina Polyakova performed with the Moscow Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Igor Butman, one of Russia's premier jazz musicians. Polyakova is a trombonist, vocalist, composer, and arranger who has performed with international musicians such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Terrance Blanchard, and Terry Lyne Carrington. She currently works as a co-arranger for the Slide Hampton Big Band and Slide Hampton & the World of Trombones.
American composer and trombonist Vincent Gardner is currently the lead trombonist for the Lincoln Center Orchestra. He has performed and toured with Wynton Marsalis, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the Count Basie Orchestra, Bobby McFerrin, Harry Connick, Jr., Frank Foster, the Saturday Night Live Band, Chaka Kahn, A Tribe Called Quest, and Nancy Wilson among many others.
Admission for the show is free but an adult/guardian must accompany children.
The Miller Branch Library/Cultural Arts Center is located at 489 Bergen Ave. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
