The Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots are a combined $1.4 billion, so the $158,000 Jersey Cash 5 grand prize seems like chump change. But the person who purchased the winning ticket at a Jersey City gas station store will take it all the same.
The winning ticket in Wednesday's drawing -- with the numbers 16, 24, 25, 38 and 42 and the XTRA number 05 -- was purchased at Tunnel Station on 12th Street, near the Holland Tunnel. The exact total of the prize was $158,868.
Some 287,164 tickets were purchased for the drawing, officials said. For correctly matching four of the five numbers drawn, 33 ticket holders won $726 each and 6 others won $3,630 each with the addition of XTRA.
No one hit the jackpot in the $345 million Powerball drawing Wednesday night, but a $1 million ticket -- matching five numbers, but not the Powerball number -- was purchased in New Jersey, officials said. The top prize for the next Powerball drawing is expected to $430 million tomorrow.
The Mega Millions' jackpot is at least $970 million for its next drawing tonight. It is the second biggest prize in U.S. lottery history.
The biggest lottery jackpot remains the $1.5864 billion Powerball prize split by three ticket holders in January 2016.
