VIJAYAWADA: Opposition Leader and YSRC party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy will visit cyclone-affected villages in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts as part of his Praja Sankalpa Yatra. An announcement to this effect was made on Saturday after a review meeting of the committees constituted by the party to assess the cyclone damage.

Members of the committee, organised to assess and bring pressure on the government to expedite the relief measures and at the same to ensure every victim is taken care off, briefed Jagan on the damages caused in the cyclone.

According to them, there was an extensive horticulture crop damage in Srikakulam district, famous for its coconut groves and cashew gardens. They said cashew plantation will take 4-5 years to yield harvest and in case of coconut trees, it will take anywhere between 8 to 10 years. They explained the damage in Ichapuram, Palasa, Tekkali, Pathapatnam, Palakonda, Rajam Assembly constituencies of Srikakulam district.

In the report, the committee members explained that 28 mandals in the district sustained severe damage and said the State government even failed to send drinking water tankers to the affected areas. Several victims failed to get the relief ration including rice, dal, oil, and other essentials. In contrary to the tall claims of the government, the value of the relief ration was around `200 only, they said. The leaders of the ruling party were resorting to mudslinging, accusing YSRC of instigating unrest among the cyclone victims, Jagan told.
