Two separate road mishaps claim 11 lives in East Godavari, Visakhapatnam

Eleven persons were killed in two separate road mishaps in East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts on Monday.

KAKINADA/VISAKHAPATNAM: Eleven persons were killed in two separate road mishaps in East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts on Monday. In the first mishap that took place at Chebrolu village in Gollaprolu Mandal near Pithapuram of East Godavari district, eight persons travelling in an auto truck died after the vehicle had a head-on collision with a tipper.

Around 15 persons from Makavarapalem in Visakhapatnam district came to Drivers Colony in Kakinada for a house warming ceremony. While they were returning back to Makavarapalem, their vehicle was hit by a tipper on the National Highway 216 at Chebrolu.

According to police, six persons died on the spot in the accident.  Locals shifted the injured to government hospital in Kakinada. Two of the injured died on the way. The mishap occurred at a narrow stretch where road development works are in progress.

The deceased were identified as auto driver G Santosh (30), Sabbavarapu Varahalu (41), Sabbavarapu Papa (35), Sabbavarapu Mahalakshmi (60), Sabbavarapu Pydithalli (45), Sabbavarapu Achayamma (45), Gowreddi Ramu (45) and Paila Lakshmi (45). Pithapuram police registered a case.

In another mishap in Paderu agency area of Visakhapatnam district, three persons died on the spot when the auto in which they were travelling overturned at Ontlamamidi village. The driver lost control while negotiating a sharp curve at a high speed and the auto overturned and hit a culvert. Three others, including the auto driver, were injured in the mishap. Two of the injured were admitted to Paderu government hospital. Sorayi Ambedkar, who sustained serious injuries in the mishap, was shifted to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam. The deceased were identified as Sorayi Chittemma (mother of Ambedkar), Sorayi Mary (wife of Ambedkar) and a 3-month-old girl. The bodies were shifted to  Paderu government hospital for postmortem, police said.

The accident happened around 2:15 pm while Ambedkar, along with his family members, was returning to Visakhapatnam from Paderu after Dasara celebrations. Paderu police registered a case.
