A former constable was arrested Tuesday from Gola Bazaar in Mainpuri district for allegedly inciting policemen to protest against the arrest of officers accused of murdering an Apple executive.

Subodh Yadav, who was dismissed from service in 2011, was booked under sections 419 (cheating by personation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC.

“Yadav had been posting videos on social media in which he had been inciting policemen to protest over several issues. He claimed to be the president of ‘Uttar Pradesh Police Association’. No such organisation exists or has been registered anywhere in our knowledge. Yadav was dismissed from service in 2011 after he went on stage and gave a speech in police uniform during the Anna Hazare movement,” said Jasveer Singh Sirohi, station house officer (SHO) of Kotwali police station.

Police said that on Tuesday, Yadav, in a Facebook post, had also criticised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for “not making any announcement for policemen” on Police Memorial Day.

Multiple posters were found across Unnao district on Police Memorial Day, carrying messages signed by “peedit police parivar” (affected police family), asserting that they will identify themselves in 2019, when the Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to take place.

Festive offer

Over half a dozen policemen were suspended this month for protesting against the arrest of the two constables accused of murdering Apple executive Vivek Tiwari in Lucknow in September.

An FIR has already been registered at the Hazratganj police station in Lucknow against unidentified people for posting “fake contents” on social media and “spreading rumours” in support of the arrested policemen.
