CBI books eight HAL employees of Koraput unit for conspiracy

BENGALURU: The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed an FIR against eight employees of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) attached to its Engine Division in Koraput, Odisha. The employees have been accused of criminal conspiracy, forgery, breach of trust among others for allegedly misappropriating company funds to the tune to Rs 5.01 crore.

The accused has been identified as Bhaben Maitra, Abinash Kumar Sarkar, Subashree Das, Jayaram Garada, Biota Charaka Maharana, Jisudan Khosla, Urdgab Khosla, Sadananda Nayak and others.
The agency filed the case on Tuesday based on a complaint filed by Uday Kumar Rout, Manager (Vigilance), HAL Engine Division, Koraput on October 10.

In the complaint against officials of the finance section of the unit, Rout alleged that the scam had occurred between January and August this year. “The preliminary scrutiny of payment vouchers for the period from January to August 2018 revealed that payments of more than Rs 5 crore has been made without any supporting documents,” the complaint read. The scam surfaced when the half-yearly audit was carried out in Bills Payable section on October 6.
