West Bengal: Chargesheet against 3 in Jalpaiguri gangrape case

Police had on Monday arrested two persons, including the prime accused — son of the victim’s brother-in-law.

“The third accused is still absconding”, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Jalpaiguri Mitava Maity said. Police said that while one of the accused allegedly raped her and the other two were present at the spot.

Police said that the victim’s husband and his brother had a dispute over a plot in Jalpaiguri. On Saturday the accused allegedly told the victim to accompany him as he wanted to sit and sort out the property dispute.

“She trusted him and left her home. She was taken to a deserted area near a pond located close to her home and was raped. After she threatened to lodge a police complaint and started screaming, the prime accused took brutality to another level and inserted an iron rod into her private parts. She was later found lying unconscious by a local resident,” a police officer said.

Sources had said that district police wase instructed to treat the case with utmost emergency by highest authorities.
