Ernakulam domination continues on day 2

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ernakulam district, which had secured a clear lead on the opening day of the 62nd State Schools’ Athletic Championship, on Saturday continued its domination by increasing its tally to 192 points.

Palakkad and Kozhikode are in second and third position, respectively with 130 and 77 points, while hosts Thiruvananthapuram is lagging in fourth place having mustered only 67 points. The 100 m race which is the glamour event saw Abhinav C of Thiruvananthapuram SAI and Ancy Sojan of Thrissur Nattika Fisheries School sprinting to glory in the boys and girls event, respectively.

The penultimate day’s competition also witnessed two new marks being set in the Junior Boys 4X100m relay and Senior Girls’ Triple Jump. It was the Thiruvananthapuram district which raced to a new mark in the relay race while in the Triple Jump Sandra Babu of MA College Sports Hostel, Mathirapally,

Ernakulam leapt to a record distance. Among the participating teams, St George’s HSS Kothamangalam (Ernakulam) is leading the race with 55 points followed by Mar Basil HSS Kothamangalam (Ernakulam) with 44 points. KHS Kumaramputhur (Palakkad) is breathing down Mar Basil’s neck with 39 points. Until now, four new marks - including the meet record in the Junior Boys’ Pole Vault and Junior Girls’ 400 m on Friday - have been set so far at the ongoing edition of the State Schools’ Athletic Championship.
