Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday ordered a probe into the death of seven elephants who were electrocuted Kamalanga village in Dhenkanal district on Friday.
A herd of 13 jumbos were passing through the village in Sadar Forest Range when seven of them came in contact with a sagging 11-KV line and were electrocuted. The carcasses were found lying in a ditch early on Saturday.
Following the incident, six officials and a junior engineer of Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) were suspended along with three forest staff members, including the Dhenkanal Range Officer.
CM Patnaik has directed to initiate appropriate action in case of any criminal negligence.
