Hardik Patel’s Kisan Satyagraha awaits permission on day of Statue of Unity inauguration

The public meeting is scheduled to be attended by former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha and sidelined party leader Shatrughan Sinha, which will coincide with the inauguration of the Statute of Unity by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday.

The application for organising Kisan Satyagraha called by Patidar leader Hardik Patel is still awaiting permission from local authorities, with just a day left in the meeting. The public meeting is scheduled to be attended by former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha and sidelined party leader Shatrughan Sinha, which will coincide with the inauguration of the Statute of Unity by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday.

However, Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) functionaries said that they were hopeful of getting permission in due time and added that the event will take place as scheduled.

PAAS convenor, Hardik Patel taking to Twitter said, “The birth anniversary of Shri Sardar Patel, thousands of farmers will be united with the voice of rights in Junagadh, and the program will be attended by former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha and former Union Minister and MP Shatrughan Sinha. Sardar Patel’s dream Farmers prosperity.” The event will be held between 5 pm to 8 pm, a few hours after the PM inaugurates the Statue of Unity in Narmada district.

Brijesh Patel, PAAS convenor for Rajkot district said that they have applied for permission for the Kisan Satyagraha through Natha Zapda, a resident of Vanthali. However, authorities said they had not yet decided on the application seeking permission for the event. Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Vanthali, KP Jethva said they had received an application seeking permission for the event. “However, we have not granted them permission for the event till now. The opinion of police is awaited and therefore, the application is pending,” Jethva told The Indian Express.

PAAS functionaries, however, expressed hope that the event will be cleared by the authorities in due time. “We are hopeful that we shall get permission for the event in the next few hours and the event will take place as per schedule. Farmers from Junagadh, Gir Somnath and Rajkot districts will attend the Kisan Satyagraha in huge numbers,” said Amit Thummar, a PAAS functionary of Junagadh.

Hardik had announced that through the Kisan Satyagraha event, they would fight against the injustice being meted out to farmers of Gujarat.
