KURNOOL: Swine flu has been playing havoc in the Kurnool district for the past one month, taking the total number of those who tested positive to H1N1 influenza to 25. Three persons tested positive for swine flu in Kurnool Government General Hospital on Tuesday, according to superintendent Dr P Chandrasekhar. District Collector S Satyanarayana held an emergency meeting with medical and health officials on Tuesday evening. Directing the officials concerned to be on the alert, he said they should give wide publicity to educate the rural and urban people about the disease.
According to medical and health department’s official reports, as many as 12 persons have died of swine flu in the past 36 days and nine more patients were undergoing treatment in isolation ward at Kurnool GGH. Addressing mediapersons, the district collector said 11 24x7 screening centres have been set up at Nandyal, Adoni and Kurnool city. Primary screening medical test centres were also set up at all public places such as bus stations and railway stations at all major towns, including Srisailam and Mantralayam, he added.
Though the H1N1 virus spread in the district is a cause of concern, he said there was nothing to worry as the medical administration is geared up with necessary medication and facilities to control and manage the spread of virus. There is also a need to sensitise people on personal hygiene and keeping the surroundings neat and clean, he said.

Awareness programmes
Vijayawada: The State government has decided to organise awareness programmes in order to sensitise public on swine flu. In a teleconference with District Collectors, Special Chief Secretary Satish Chandra directed them to launch a campaign on H1N1 in public places, including bus and railway stations.
