The inmates have been making the lamps for the last couple of weeks. And they have undergone training for this purpose for a number of weeks.Speaking to The New Indian Express, Jail Superintendent Anita R said lamps in six designs are being prepared by 20 prisoners. Compared to the lamps available in the market, these are attractive and costs less.

The target is to make 3,000 lamps, and in another couple of days, they will be kept for sale after giving the finishing touches. The price of the lamps ranges from `25 to `100.  Anita said, “The lamps are made of mud and wax.

To popularise the products, we are using social media.”Another jail official said the lamps will be sold by the prisoners themselves, which will also give the inmates an opportunity to interact with people.
