Lucknow: Sitapur SP thrashed, SIs assaulted in court

LUCKNOW: Sitapur SP Prabhakar Chaudhary was allegedly manhandled by a group of lawyers and his two sub-inspectors were thrashed by them on the court premises in the town on Wednesday.
The SP has recommended the National Security Act to imposed on lawyers who assaulted the SIs. A case of loot and assault on a government official on duty has also been registered against 12 identified and 12 another unidentified lawyers.
A 12-member team has also been formed by the police to identify those who attacked the cops.
A reward of Rs 25,000 been announced for those who identify those who assaulted the cops.
According to the police, around 3pm, police and the administration conducted a drive of removing an illegal restaurant beside Sitapur Club, located near eye hospital crossing. The restaurant was owned by two lawyers who were booked and later detained by the police.
As a result, scores of lawyers came out in their support and started raising slogans against the police and the administration. The lawyers reached the court premises which was barely 1 km away, said the police. In the meantime, Sitapur SP had come to meet the district judge and went inside his chamber.
"Seeing him enter the chamber, a group of lawyers also wanted to sneak into the chamber. They were not allowed as it was an official visit. Enraged over it, lawyers caught hold of the two sub-inspectors and hurled shoes at them. When the SP tried to intervene, he was also pushed and his mobile phone snatched," said the police. The two sub-inspectors who were attacked are Pradeep Pandey and Vinod Tiwari.
The SP told TOI that strict action would be initiated against lawyers. They were running an illegal restaurant also was a hub of illegal activities and was seized.
