PATNA: A Vigilance Investigation Bureau team led by DSP Gopal Paswan arrested circle officer (CO) of Nirmali block in Supaul district Moahmmad Shah Alam from his official residence while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 55,000 from one Mohammad Khalid (46).
Vigilance sources said the officer was accepting the bribe from Khalid, the complainant, to make his private land in the block encroachment-free.

“Khalid had been running from pillar to post for removal of encroachments from his land. He had also written to the deputy collector land reforms (DCLR) of Supual over the issue. The DCLR found Khalid’s claim to be true and asked the Nirmali CO to ensure removal of encroachments. However, when Khalid approached the CO, he was asked to pay Rs 55,000 to get the work done,” sources said.
They added that Khalid lodged a complaint with the vigilance department on October 29. “A trap team was formed to nab Alam,” sources said, adding the CO had only five more years of service left.
They said Alam, a resident of Chhapra in Saran district, would be forwarded to jail after his production in a special vigilance court in Patna.
On October 31, Munna Kumar, who is associated with implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), was arrested on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from one Chotu Giri in Isarhi Bazaar locality of Jagdishpur in Bhojpur district.
Kumar had allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe from the complainant to clear his second instalment for the construction work being done by him at Barnaw panchayat of Jagdishpur block. However, the “deal” was later settled at Rs 5,000. He was arrested by a vigilance team led by DSP Vimlendu Kumar Verma.
