UP: 4 booked for attempt to murder after BJP MLA's SUV hit from behind on Yamuna Expressway

AGRA: Four men of Ghaziabad and Noida were booked for attempt to murder by Agra police after their SUV hit Kanpur BJP MLA's car on Yamuna Expressway.
Identified as Akash Dixit, Rohit and Raju who hailed from Nehru garden of Ghaziabad and Lalit Sharma, the owner of car who hailed from Noida were booked under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees).All the accused are below the age of 30.
It’s important to note, that at the time of accident Lalit Sharma was neither driving the car nor was in the car.
According to police, on Tuesday afternoon at around 1.30 pm near Khandauli toll plaza of Yamuna Expressway, Lalit’s SUV drove by Akash Dixit hit the rear of Vinod Kumar Katiyar, the MLA of Bhognipur, Kanpur dehat district.
MLA Katiyar was returning home in his SUV from Noida along with his driver and gunner.
Speaking to TOI, Prashant Tyagi, station house officer of Khandauli said, “The FIR was lodged based on the written complaint of MLA. The IPC section of 307 would be revoked if the probe found them not guilty.”
BJP MLA Vinod Kumar Katiyar told TOI “The occupants of the SUV attempted to kill me. Their speed was around 150kmph. My SUV was standing at toll plaza when it was hit from the rear. Though neither I nor my staff suffered any bruise, it seems the rash driver and his men had the intention to kill me.”
In the accident, Akash Dixit, Rohit and Raju suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, on Friday, the three accused were sent to jail after been presented to the court. According to sources, the three were kept in police station lock-up since Tuesday and were been demanded Rs 1.25 lakh for damaged caused to MLA’s car.
Refuting on the allegation, the SHO Khandauli Prashant Tyagi said, “They were admitted in hospital and were not in lockup.”
Reiterating the same, circle officer Atul Kumar Sonkar of Etampur said, “The police team were probing the matter and no accused were detained in lockup. On Friday, three accused were sent for 14 days remand after court permission.”
