BJP releases 17 names in second list, drops 5 more MLAs
BHOPAL: Amid simmering discontentment among party workers, BJP on Monday released a second list of 17 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections, dropping five sitting MLAs and repeating minister Sharad Jain.
Suspense lingers on the nine controversial seats of Indore and two of Bhopal - Govindpura and Bhopal North. BJP has now announced 193 candidates against 171 of Congress, dropping 41 MLAs.

The ruling party has reaffirmed faith in two losers of the 2013 polls - Anoop Mishra, nephew of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Harendrajeet Singh Babbu. While Mishra will contest Bhitarwar seat in Gwalior, Babbu will fight in Jabalpur West. Both of them are former ministers and had lost to Congress candidates Lakhan Singh Yadav and Tarun Bhanot by margins of 923 and 6,500 votes. They are going head to head again.
There was speculation that BJP could replace minister Sharad Jain, but he managed to save his seat, Jabalpur North. But five MLAs weren't so lucky this time - including Jaswant Singh Hada, believed to be a close confidante of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Indersingh Parmar, sitting MLA from Kalapeepal, has replaced him in Shujalpur. The party also dropped Chandrashekhar Deshmukh (Multai), Mukesh Pandya (Badnagar), Pandit Singh Dhurve (Bichhiya) and Veer Singh Pawar (Kurwai).
The number of women candidates has gone up by two - Leena Sanjay Jain from Basoda (Vidisha) and Nirmala Bhuriya from Petlawad (Jhabua). Another interesting choice is former chairman of MP Tourism, Mohan Yadav, from Ujjain South.
