A eagle-eyed dad spotted what looks like an underwater airliner on Google Earth .

Robert Morton, 55, was baffled to find a clear image of what looks like an aircraft under the sea off the coast of Edinburgh.

The father-of-three, from Doncaster, South Yorks., was unable to explain the mystery he said was "incredible and very strange".

Speak exclusively to Mirror Online, the mechanical fitter said: "I was just looking on Google Earth on Monday and, by chance, I came across the picture of the aircraft.

"It looks like it is the sea, just off the coast of Edinburgh. It looks like it is underwater.

"Its very, very strange. It's incredible.

"I have never actually seen an aircraft on Google Earth so it is very strange. It appears to be underwater."

The image seems to show what looks like a plane under the water less than 0.7 miles off the Scottish coast (

The remarkable picture appears to depict the aircraft underwater less than 0.7 miles off the Scottish coast - but it could just be a 'glitch'.

The nearest airport, Edinburgh ,is around nine miles away.

It comes after a tech expert from the UK claimed he spotted the doomed MH370 plane on Google Maps.

Ian Wilson used the technology to piece together what he said was evidence the Malaysian Airlines plane lies strewn deep in a jungle in Cambodia.

But Mr Morton conceded the latest image may just be a "Google anomaly".

The dad was unable to explain the image of the 'sunk aircraft' (

He added: "I have never heard of any aircraft crashing leaving Edinburgh or that area.

"I know the picture of the plane isn't really in the water, its probably the satellite looking down on it through thin cloud giving it that appearance.

"I thought it was unusual as I've not seen an aircraft in flight captured by Google Earth before.

"It may just be another Google analomy."

A Google spokesman said: "The reason it looks like the plane is underwater is because each satellite image you see on the map is actually a compilation of several images.

"Fast-moving objects, like planes, often show up in only one of the many images we use for a given area. When this happens, faint remnants of the fast-moving object can sometimes be seen."
