Vimal Kumar’s egg cart was located near a liquor shop in Ghas ki Mandi area, around 2 km from his house. He had two children — an eight-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son — and was a native of Nagla Bhoja. Police said he suffered from partial paralysis of the limbs.

Circle Officer (City) Suman Kannaujiya said that at around 8 pm on Monday, they got information through the police control room that a group of people were protesting by placing a body on Hathras-Agra Road.

A team rushed to the spot and found the protesters pelting stones at passing vehicles.

“The protesters alleged that three policemen including S-I Ashish Yadav went to Vimal’s shop at around 7 pm and thrashed him, and he died later,” said the CO.

“During preliminary inquiry, it was found that a police team had gone to Ghas Ki Mandi locality after coming to know of heavy traffic at a liquor shop. They found a huge crowd gathered near Vimal’s shop. It was suspected that Vimal used to serve liquor to the people. The police team removed roadside vendors as well as people who had gathered near Vimal’s shop” he added.

The CO further said, “After the police team left, local residents found Vimal lying unconscious. They rushed him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.”

On the basis of a complaint filed by Vimal’s wife Pushpa Devi, the FIR was registered, said station house officer of City Kotwali police station (Hathras) Jaspal Singh Pawar, adding that the investigation was going on and no arrests had been made yet.

An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday. “No injury was evident on the body. We are waiting for the autopsy report to reach a conclusion,” said SP Prakash.
