A safe shelter during night is a problem for travelling women in the State. When their jobs demand frequent travels and overnight stays, women prefer to stay in the houses of friends or relatives due to lack of safe places to stay.

Now, travelling women will get a safe place to stay in Thrissur, with the opening of the Corporation’s first ‘She Lodge’ on Tuesday.

Around 50 women can be accommodated here. The authorities are planning to arrange vehicles, driven by women, from railway station and bus-stand to the She Lodge situated at Panchikkal, near Ayyanthole.

Earlier there was no facility for women to stay in the city.

Though there is Mahila Mandiram, it is around 6 km from the city. The She Lodge will be a big boon for women who reach the city for examinations, interviews, and cultural programmes.

At the three-storey She Lodge, built at ₹1.35 crore, there are single rooms and common rooms. The 5,000-sq ft building has a kitchen, dining hall and office in the ground floor. There is a security person and CCTV camera on the premises.

An online system, through which women can book rooms, is getting ready.
