Madhya Pradesh polls: Former BJP minister weeps openly after party denies ticket, joins Congress

Sartaj Singh told reporters that he will contest from Hoshangabad district and will file his nomination on Friday.

Citing his age, the BJP had dropped him from the Shivraj Singh Chouhan ministry two years ago.

Former BJP Minister and MLA Sartaj Singh from Seoni Malwa constituency in Hoshangabad district on Thursday joined the Congress after the party (BJP) denied him a ticket to contest the upcoming Madhya Pradesh polls.

Sartaj Singh told reporters that he will contest from Hoshangabad district and will file his nomination on Friday. Congress party also announced his name as its official candidate in its fifth list released on Thursday.

The former Union minister wept openly after his name did not appear in the third list of BJP’s candidates for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls.

Citing his age, the BJP had dropped him from the Shivraj Singh Chouhan ministry two years ago. Over last few days, the 78-year-old was threatening to contest as Independent if denied ticket by the BJP.

The BJP is yet to announce its candidate for Seoni Malwa.
