Candidate-less BJP gets 16,000 Votes in Ramanagara
BJP here campaigned for the party's Lotus symbol and asked residents to vote for the nation and PM Narendra Modi
RAMANAGARA: Even though BJP candidate, who was originally a Congressman, withdrew from contest, the saffron party managed to earn around 16,000 votes in the assembly bypoll held on last Saturday. BJP here campaigned for the party's Lotus symbol and asked residents to vote for the nation and PM Narendra Modi after L Chandrashekhar withdrew from contesting and went back to Congress at the last moment.

BJP got 15,906 votes out of total 1,48,168 polled. Winning candidate, CM Kumaraswamy’s wife Anita Kumaraswamy from JDS got 1,25,043 votes, who contested as a combined candidate of Congress-JDS. Thus she won by a record margin of 1,09,137 votes against BJP, while 2,909 NOTA votes were recorded here.

Anita is also the first woman MLA from this constituency. Nearby Channapattna is represented by her husband, chief minister HD Kumaraswamy. This is also a first of its kind case of husband and wife representing the neighboring constituencies.
Both Congress and BJP did not have any contestants from Ramanagara due to the political developments.
Chandrasekhar has gone back to his original camp due to MP DK Suresh Kumar’s tricks.
