The police have booked cases against fans of actor Vijay for putting up hoardings and banners of the movie, Sarkar, without obtaining permission, across the central region.

The registration of cases comes in the wake of protests resorted to by AIADMK cadre across the region on Thursday demanding the removal of certain objectionable scenes from the film.

Police sources said 31 cases were booked in Thanjavur district ; 10 in Karur district; eight in Tiruchi district; three in Perambalur and two in Ariyalur. The hoardings and banners put up Vijay fans caused disturbance to vehicular movements, said the police.

The cases have been booked under section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act.
