Bhagalpur civic body to develop vending zones
BHAGALPUR: With a view to removing encroachments by roadside vendors in town areas, the Bhagalpur Municipal Corporations (BMC) will soon set up integrated vending zones at 51 locations.
The locations earmarked by the civic body for setting up vending zones in the town area are Champanala road, Nathnagar, near CTS, Kabirpur, Parbatti, Tatarpur, Ramsar, Station chowk, Lohia Pul, Patal Babu road, bus stand, Burhanath Mandir, Deepnagar, Lajpat Park, Adampur, SM College road, Ghanta Ghar Chowk, Tilkamanjhi, Sikanderour, Zero Mile, Gurhatta Chowk, Kutchery Chowk, Barhepura, Maulanachak, Khirni Ghat, Ishakchak, Jabaripur besides others.

“The vending zones will be set up for economically weaker sections of the society who can carry out their trade with moveable kiosks,” said BMC sources. The need for vending zones was felt after frequent traffic snarls were observed and roadside encroachment by vendors added to traffic woes.
BMC deputy mayor Rajesh Verma said, “Setting up vending zones will immensely benefit the petty shopkeepers doing roadside business. We are reviewing the spots where the vending zones will come up. Areas that have traffic bottlenecks would be taken up on priority basis.”
The Bhangalpur district administration has also decided to earmark areas for vehicular parking to ease traffic congestion on the streets.
