VARANASI: Police on Sunday arrested five Bangladeshi immigrants with their Kolkata-based handler from Dulhipur area in Chandauli district.
SP Santosh Kumar Singh said that acting on a tip-off by a gram pradhan, the Mugalsarai police raided the area and caught them.
The arrested Bangladeshi immigrants have been identified as Mohd Farooq Parmanik, Julfikar, Mamun Ali, Noorul Islam, Manik Sarkar of Naugaon in Bangladesh and their Kolkata-based handler Alam.
Police have also recovered fake documents including voter identity cards and high school marksheets from their possession.
During the probe, it came to the light that Alam, who also works as a contractor in Dulhipur, had collected Rs 10,000 from each of these Bangladeshis to ensure their intrusion and taking them to Chandauli district. He had assured them that they will earn minimum Rs 400 per day and if they would be interested in going to the Gulf countries, he would arrange fake documents to procure Indian passports for them.
With the help of a local lawyer, Alam arranged fake documents including marksheets and voter IDs in their name following which they went to gram pradhan Nitu Gupta to get a residential certificate from her when she reported the matter to the police.
Singh said that an FIR under section 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 of the IPC and also under appropriate sections of Passport Act and Indian Citizenship Act has been lodged in this regard. The arrested persons were sent to jail after being produced before a court.
