Brexit CAN be stopped, Labour's Shadow Brexit Secretary declared today.

Keir Starmer appeared to contraict Jeremy Corbyn as he said "all options must remain on the table" - including a public vote on leaving the EU.

It comes days after Labour's leader prompted a row among his own MPs, many of whom want a so-called 'People's Vote' allowing Brexit to be halted.

Mr Corbyn told a German interviewer: "We can't stop it [Brexit]. The referendum took place. Article 50 has been triggered. What we can do is recognise the reasons why people voted Leave."

But today, Sir Keir presented a different picture.

Instead Sir Keir said Labour's policy - agreed at its conference in September - is to force a general election, and keep the option of a public vote on the table if it doesn't happen.

Sir Keir told Sky News: "Brexit can be stopped.

"But the real question is what are the decisions we're going to face over the next few weeks and months.

"Decision one is on the deal.

"Decision two is if the deal goes down should there be a general election.

"And decision three is if there's no general election, all options must be on the table, including the option of a public vote.

"Jeremy signed up to that, I'm signed up to that, and that's the position of the party."

He added: "Jeremy and I and Emily and the whole Labour party is behind the Labour Party policy that was laid out in September. That is our policy."

Theresa May is scrambling to reach a Brexit deal in time for when the UK leaves the EU on 29 March 2019.

But even if she agrees one in the coming days, it could be voted down in Parliament by a coalition of Remainers and Brexiteers.

Labour says if that happens, she can't simply leave with No Deal - as Mrs May is threatening to do.

Instead backers of a 'People's Vote' want to put the decision to the public.

Privately, many People's Vote supporters accept the legal date of Brexit would have to be extended beyond 29 March 2019 - otherwise there will not be enough time to arrange and hold a new referendum.

Spain's Prime Minister today urged Britain to hold a second referendum and "come back into the EU".

Pedro Sánchez told Politico: "If I was Theresa May, I would call a second referendum — no doubt.

"It’s true that we’re now on the verge of signing a transition deal … [but] I’d like to see the British government calling a second referendum.

"I don’t mean now, but in the future, so that it can come back to the EU."
